OFFICER RANK INSIGNIA

(Conjectural)

Gorn rank insignia, worn on both sides of their high uniform collars, reflect the prominence of threes in their society: each insignia are three-sided affairs.  On top of this, each level of officer is grouped in a classic three-level format: junior or field officers (O-1 to O-3) wear blackened insignia; senior or command-grade officers (O-4 to O-6) wear silver insignia; and flag or fleet-level officers (O-7 to O-9) wear gold.  The highest grade within each level (O-3, O-6 and O-9) wears a triangular cluster of smaller insignia.  The only departure to this system is the O-10 grade; it is assumed that the reason for this departure is because the O-10 grade was not originally part of the chain of command, but instead added later.  It is thought that the Hegemon himself is the only one authorized to hold the rank of 'High Fleet Master.'
